The Wi-Fi thermostat is the best smart thermostat because it offers the most advanced features of any smart thermometer and smart connector, and costs less than $100. It is also the smartest of all because it has additional sensors and acts as an energy-efficient, cost-effective, Energy Star certified, multi-room capable and expensive smart thermometer.
The remote sensor is a separate small unit in the main thermostat that is placed in another room or area of your home. Some of these devices will most likely come with a room sensor included in the thermostat, while others will need to purchase the sensor separately.
The smart thermostat system also uses smart features such as motion sensors to determine whether you are at home or on the move, and automatically changes the temperature of the heating or cooling without having to fiddle with the HVAC system. The sensor in the thermostat is most likely to take the decision to switch off heating and cooling, and this is what we call the remote sensor of a thermostat. Some programmable Thermostats allow you to set your heating / cooling plan several days in advance and change temperatures automatically, but they are not smart thermometers. Smart thermometer systems like the Nest Thermometer and Nest Thermonaut are designed to learn your schedule naturally so they can change the temperature in real time even when you're not at home.
If you want to have a lot of control over your HVAC system, consider a multi-zone thermostat, as it allows you to control the temperature from room to room. The best multi-zone smart thermostat is the one that works with a remote sensor, so you can adjust the temperature in your home based on readings from different rooms. Most smart thermostats use a smart sensor for the room sensors and the remote control. Make sure you choose a thermostat that supports both devices, as you control both the temperature of the house and the air conditioning in different areas of your home.
For example, the Honeywell Home Programmable Thermostat is one of the smart thermostats we describe below. It allows temperature adjustment via app or Wi-Fi and is integrated with a remote control and an intelligent sensor for the room sensors and remote controls. Smart thermostats are able to control temperatures in different rooms, but you will probably want to connect a few additional sensors.
